'Quantiesque' Snowflake

To join in the spirit of giving, here is a present for you, readers of my blog. A snowflake pattern that I have just completed.


If you are wondering about the name, here is the explanation for it. I was transfixed by the effects of the centre which is a take of the Mary Quant logo of the 60's. The actual MQ logo has five 'petals'. Yes, I remember those times, :-). I must be really ancient to some of you, huh!

I didn't have time to draw the chart for this, but I will get it done and update the chart here later.

This snowflake is made in three rounds with a tiny bit of celtic effect made by Rounds 1 and 2 together.

Round 1 - using shuttle & ball

R(5-3-3-5), reverse work.
(*)C(8-8), reverse work.
R(5+3-3-5), join to last picot of previous ring, reverse work.
Repeat from (*) three time more.

C(8-8), reverse work.
R(5+3-3+5), joining to the last picot of previous ring, and the first picot of the first ring.
C(8-8)

Cut, tie and hide ends.


Round 2 - shuttle & ball

R(4-2-2-2-2-4), reverse work.
C(6), reverse work.
R(4+2-2-2-2-4), reverse work.
C(10-10), reverse work.

Repeat these four steps, joining the last chain to the first ring. Cut, tie and hide ends.

What you should get is six pairs of rings joined together with a long chain as in this picture on the right.


Next, slip each pair of rings of Round 2 through each chain of Round 1, see right.




Round 3 - two shuttles

R(5+5), join to last picot of the 2nd ring of one pair of rings of Rnd 2. Do not reverse.
(*) R(5+5), join to the 1st picot of the 1st ring of the next pair of rings of Rnd 2. Reverse work.

C(3-3-3-3+), joined to the middle picot of the ring joined earlier. Reverse work.

Switch shuttle (SS), C(6), reverse work.
Make the clover, R(4-4-4-4), R(4+2-2-2-2-4) and R(4+4-4-4), reverse work.
C(6), reverse work.

SS, lock join to the middle picot of the next ring on the same pair of rings.
C(3-3-3-3), reverse work.
R(5+5), join to the last picot of the same ring joined earlier.

Repeat from (*) all round, joining the last chain to the beginning.

Cut, tie and hide ends.
